Greytown Travel Tips for 2020:

What to Pack for Self-Catering Accommodation

Greytown self-catering Cape Robin is one of the reasons we love self-catering accommodation so much. This is because while there is a little more work involved in your travel, you have a lot more space to work with. Unlike hotel rooms, self-catering accommodation offers more open space, with more amenities. Cape Robin guest house focuses on providing a place of homely comfort for our guests... Cape Robin is an extraordinary place to visit, and before we start harping on, let’s get into what you should be packing to have the best self-catering experience!

Things you need to know before you start packing:

  1. Plan the number of days you are travelling.
  2. What supplies do you have for self-catering?
  3. What activities are you planning?
  4. Become aware of the nearby amenities.
  5. What do you want to eat while you’re on your trip?
Kitchen Basics

Self-Catering units provide basic kitchen amenities to get you settled like crockery, cutlery, pots, pans, cooking utensils, kettle and toaster. You should, however, always check with your accommodation as to what these amenities are, to ensure that you pack accordingly.

Example: Cling wrap, olive oil, salt and pepper, plastic containers for leftovers, coffee, tea and sugar (your choice of staple refreshment).

Also, you should consider packing all of your home favorites. You’re going to want to snack on something, so why not make sure that you’re packing for those moments by pre-planning your snacks and bites to for your trip?

Besides, make sure that you’ve considered any condiments you might pair with your food, as there is always a chance that your destination may not stock your desired brands.

Linen

While Cape Robin has a complete Linen and Towel service for all of our rooms, you’ll want to ensure that your accommodation does the same or pack for the occasion by bringing along the necessary items.

Example: sheets, blankets, and towels, especially if you are allergy-prone.

Laundry

No one wants to do laundry on vacation, but it is something to consider when packing your clothes. In other words, pack appropriately for the number of days you’ll be spending away from home so that you can do laundry when you return or check that you’ll have access to a laundry facility at your destination. There is of course still the option to pack your laundry essentials and do laundry on the go. It might not be ideal, but it is a great solution for packing light!

Travelling with kids?

You think you’re ready, hear us out! Kids might be excited to go on holiday, but will get tired very quickly and want to be back at home, so be sure to back as many of their favourite items as possible while being diligent with the amount of space these items take. Remember that one tricycle takes up a lot more space than a carry-on bag, so be ready to plan the boot of your car.

Toiletries

Probably one of the most important things on this list. You’re not going to be happy if you forget something like your toothbrush. Pack a travel vanity which has all of the necessary medications needed to ensure that everyone is seen for. Being in a new environment with new whether and strange temperatures, can hurt your body, so make sure you prepare as much as possible in this department. From the travel-sized toothpaste to the chapstick.
